The Indian Government has made the Aadhar -PAN linking compulsory from 1^st July. People applying for PAN card must quote their Aadhaar or enrollment ID. In Finance, Bill 2017-18 Finance Minister Arun Jaitley has made the 12-digit biometric identity system Aadhaar mandatory for filing ITRs and provided for linking of PAN with Aadhaar. This is specially launched to trace the individuals who are evading tax by holding multiple PAN cards.

“Every person who has been allotted PAN as on July 1, 2017, and who in accordance with the provisions of sub-section (2) of section 139AA is required to intimate his Aadhaar number, shall intimate his Aadhaar number to the principal director general of income tax (systems) or DGIT (Systems),” according to the revenue department.

In India, 2.07 cr taxpayers have already linked the PAN and Aadhar cards, as per reports. The Aadhar Card has been issued for 111 crore people and PAN card has been issued for 25 crore people in India.
